Thick cable-knit sweaters may call to mind blustery fishing towns, coarse sheep’s wool and Irish folklore — but this season, several designers have put a fresh spin on the age-old style. On his fall/winter 2018 runway in Paris, the Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck showcased variants of the textured sweater such as sleeveless shapes in bold primary blues. The Japanese label Sacai also explored the pattern, segmenting cable knit patches together to create contrast.
